My Joomla installation was done via a DreamHost installer. It was super-easy and kudo's to DreamHost for doing a fine job with that. By default, all of my article fragments that were listed on the front page had icons for Print, PDF, and EMail next to them. I really do not need this functionality for most of my articles and I wanted to turn that off by default.

I found that I had to go to two places to achieve this. First I had to go to Menus -> Main Menu * -> Home -> Parameters (Component). Change the settings for PDF Icon, Print Icon, and E-mail Icon to Use Global. Be sure and save your changes.

Next you will want to go to Content -> Article Manager -> Parameters. Change the settings for PDF Icon, Print Icon, and E-mail Icon to either Hide or Show as you wish. Be sure and save your changes.
