Got a call from Gordy Jr. at about 10:35 this morning! It was a fairly decent connection, although it did drop once and he had to call me back. Gordy is doing well. He is receiving letters and packages. He even received a letter from his Grandma in CC that had been mailed to Fort Benning about 3 months ago and was forwarded to him.
He said the temperature during the day is anywhere from 130 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (yikes!), but cools down to about 90 at night. They don’t have any A/C in their sleeping tents. But they recently got a new chow hall that is a real building rather than a tent and it has A/C.
Gordy still expects to be able to come home for a couple weeks in October, so we are all really looking forward to that. He did received his birthday present, a fabulous fixed blade knife from Chris Reeves knives
All his Army buddies are jealous! 
I asked what kind of stuff I could send him and the only thing he could come up with was an old pair of tennis shoes. He said he left his in the showers last night and when he remembered and went back to look for them today they were gone.. Needless to say, he will have a pair going out tonight!
