Triathlon Training, day 83
I got up at 04:30 on Saturday morning, wolfed down a bit of breakfast from stuff I had picked up last night at a close Harris Teeter’s grocery store, and hit the road. Here I am leaving the hotel, looking a bit like a gangster:
I ran from the hotel across the beautiful Arthur Ravenel bridge that connects Mount Pleasant and Charleston. The span that goes from Charleston to Mount Pleasant has an excellent walking/cycling lane so I ran down to Coleman Blvd and up on to that part of the bridge. It was bloody COLD! The temperature was somewhere in the mid-to-upper 30′s and the wind was blowing strong. I was wearing shorts, a sleeveless tech shirt, shoes, a knit hat and gloves. I thought I was going to die.
When I got across the bridge the pedestrian lane emptied out onto East Bay street. I followed that down to the Battery, then back on Tradd street and up King and eventually back across the bridge to Mount Pleasant. From there run up to Shem Creek, then back to the hotel.
You can see the GPS map and other details here.
Jennifer’s Graduation
When I got back from the run, Mom and Jennifer were having breakfast at the hotel. I joined them for breakfast and then Jennifer went back to here apartment to get ready for her graduation. Mom and I did some sight-seeing in Charleston and then drove with Jennifer and Will to Charleston Southern University for her graduation.
It was a very nice ceremony and we are all really proud of our new college graduate! After that we went to California Dreaming restaurant (very good).
In the evening Jennifer took us to the most amazing light show I’ve ever seen. It was on James Island and it is called the Holiday Festival of Lights. This is 3 miles of incredible light displays in the park on James Island.
Here is a flickr photo set from various parts of the trip. I will be updating this post later on to also show some video that I shot during the graduation.
