It’s been an exciting evening at the Willow house. First of all, Mikie found a possum hanging out in a bird-house on the side yard.

Then, shortly after that, we lost all water pressure at the house. Went outside to investigate and saw some emergency vehicles down the block. Found out that the water main for the neighborhood ruptured and they are having to dig up the street to repair it. It’s a work in progress.

365 Project

Mikie just told me about this cool site. The idea is to post one photograph every day for a year. I just signed up today – it doesn’t cost anything – and have uploaded a couple of pics. On weekdays I’m going to post pics of things I see on my commute to or from work. On weekends, anything goes!.

Asian City

We stopped by Asian City today. They have a couple of small, inter-connected Koi ponds out front.

Afterwards we went to the Barnes & Noble to enjoy a cup of coffee and browse the new book selection. I made a pit stop in the men’s room and was surprised to find this pile of clothes in the corner of the handicapped stall. Looks like enough clothing for several people. Mikie suggested the rapture might have come late and these were among the chosen ones…

Osama and the Morning Commute

I read in the Houston Chronicle this morning that Osama bin Laden was killed yesterday. Good. Had an interesting drive to work this morning. The traffic was really getting think on 59 S. as I drove in from Humble, so I I got off at the Crosstimbers exit. Drove west on Crosstimbers, then south on Jensen. Turned right on Calvacade. Got held up for about 15 minutes by a train. Turned left and drove south on Hardy. That merged into the Elysian Street overpass. Very cool way to come into Houston. Drove west on Prarie, which merged into Memorial. Then drove south on Shepherd and west on Alabama. Except for the train it would have been a pretty fast trip.

Morning at Willow

We had a relaxing morning. Here is my honey making me some kind of surprise breakfast.

And what a tasty surprise it was! Bacon with a fried egg over easy on top of a crab cake…

Shadow and Dot helped a lot in the whole cleaning cages process.

Trip to the gym

As I was on my way to the gym I spotted some unfortunate citizen pulled over by an Humble cop.

Humble Cop

At Lifetime Fitness I warmed up with 10 minutes on an elliptical machine and then 4 sets of circuit training on various Freemotion machines.

Elliptical Warmup

Stopped by the H.E.B. in Atascocita on the way home. Noticed that they sell various brands of Kombucha. Hadn’t noticed that before. Our daughter Chelsea makes this stuff.

Dinner

Mikie made this amazing dinner – ground beef cooked and seasoned with Mexican spices served over a bed of lettuce with pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, red onion, cheese, black olives, and salsa.

Daytum

All day long I played around with some software from Daytum. Pretty interesting. That came about as a result of me reading about Lifelogging.

Physical Therapy

Had my third session of physical therapy at 07:00 this morning. The whole left knee situation is still pretty wonky. I cannot tell if physical therapy is helping or not. It still seems to me that the bulk of it is supervised stretching and weight training. I’m pretty good at doing that type of stuff without supervision, so … not sure how useful this expensive therapy is.

New Glasses

Mikie picked up our new glasses yesterday from the optical department at the Target’s in Humble. Still getting used to them.

Weird iTunes Error

Got these error dialogs this morning from iTunes. I ended up having to completely wipe and reinstall iTunes as per this Apple technote.

Rahab!

Had my first physical therapy session at N.E. Rahab in Humble. My therapist, Mary Jo, had me warm up for 10 minutes on an elliptical. The rest of the session was basically just supervised stretching and exercise. At the end of the session she showed me how to tape my left knee to help keep the kneecap in alignment while exercising. I’m not sure how much actual value there is to be had from these sessions. I think I would get as much value from just being given instructions and then turned loose at the gym.

Lunch

Got in a quick cardio workout at the LA Fitness by work. Did a bit of rowing followed by elliptical.

Eyes

Mikie and I both got our eyes checked today at the Target optical dept in Humble. I had some minor tweaks in my prescription and ordered some new glasses. Mikie is getting some new glasses as well, but — and this is very cool — is trying on some contact lenses. Hopefully that will work out OK.

So you all behave. We’ll be keeping an eye on you! :-)

Marshmallows

Do you know the etymology of the word marshmallow? I didn’t. My friend John at work told me a bit about them today. Wikipedia has a good write-up on the topic. But more to the point, an excellent recipe for making them at home can be found here. I intend to give it a try this weekend.

Lobsters

Lobsters. Need I say more?

Gargoyle

One of the routes that I take on the drive home takes me by this very cool building. I will try and get a better picture on another day. But check out the the gargoyle at the upper-left side of the photo.

The moon wanted more of my night
I turned off the engine and the headlights
The trees appeared as they'd never been gone
I promised the fields I'd return from now on
